Dutch Treats to make and bake and share with those you love!
Dutch Pepernoten recipe! A Dutch Christmas Classic!
Call it Kruidnoten or Pepernoten! It's still cookie-ish and fruity-ish! (try saying that as fast as you can three times... without laughing).. haha!! Not so easy!
Pepernoten are the soft pieces. Kruidnoten are cookie-ish pieces. Tossed together they are, oh, so yummy in the tummy, and oh, so Dutch!
Pepernoten or Kruidnoten, which ever one you choose to call it, is usually eaten upon the arrival of Sinterklaus, which is December 5th of each year. The treat is basically small spiced cookie balls mixed with candies.
The traditional recipe calls for making and baking the cookie balls, cooling them, and then adding small bits and pieces of candies, and mixing them all together.
The typical combination includes heart shaped candies, sinterklaus candies, and fruity candies.
There are traditional Sinterklaus candies available through online stores or you can create your own version!
Have fun and enjoy a taste of the Netherlands!!
