Did someone say, "Oliebollen!!"
Since "New Years" is just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share one of the most beloved traditions of the "Dutch" New Year; Oliebollen!
What's Oliebollen, you ask!?
Well, broken down into its simplest compound form, the word just means oily ball.. Not much there to get excited about.. BUT!!. hold on just a second!!... when you stick those two words back together and say them with some sort of Dutch accent, some sort of magic takes place and, ta-da! You have Oliebollen!
Much like its American counterpart, the doughnut, Oliebollen are deep fried dough balls with powdered sugar sprinkled over them once cooled!
What a tradition! What a fun way to ring in the New Year!
I hope you enjoy a taste of the Dutch New Year!
With much love,
Brechtje, ❤️
